I am extremely disappointed. Finding the sweet spot consistently is difficult, easy to lose and frustrating to use.
This is a great tool to assist with drawing. It is designed very well and is a solid piece of equipment that is priced quite well. I have another Lucida that is bigger and cost 4X this. It is no better and I never use it because of its size. It takes a bit to get used to it. I have always been good with drawing but this allows a greater precision than I could ever have with just freehand. Also, my obstacles of proportioning and accurately depicting hands and feet are overcome with this tool. Yes you can, with a few hours of messing with it, simply trace objects. If that is your goal, this will help. But if your goal is to push your art further and increase your skills at rendering, this tool is still invaluable. As I understand, lucidas, when they were invented, were priced so only those of means could afford them. This price and this incredible engineering brings this useful tool to those of moderate means. Thank you for this useful and time-proven tool and for creating this at a reasonable price!
I was excited when my order arrived in a few days. Although I followed the instructions to the letter I was unable to make the shadow image appear on the paper no matter how I turned the viewer nor could I see my hand in the viewer. My husband also read the directions and tried and tried. He was also unable to make it work. I think the viewer was just too small. I sent it back and ordered the larger one and I hope to have better success with that.
Yes, very happy. I'm a fan of John Herschel's use of a camera Lucida, and I took the NeoLucida to Cape Town last month on a business trip had brief moments to practice. Can't wait for the larger version!
