When I was in middle school (a lot of years ago), I attended a German school where it was mandatory to use a fountain pen. I had to learn how to write in cursive and be very careful not to run the ink all over the paper. That definitely instilled some discipline in my schoolwork that spread to all my studies. Then I went to a different high school and forgot about fountain pens.
A couple of years ago, my father-in-law passed away and left me a beautiful gold Sheaffer with a gold nib fountain pen. I've been using it sporadically. Recently I started a paper journal to get away from my phone and decided to get a fountain pen I could carry everywhere — I'm afraid of losing my father-in-law's heirloom. So I decided to get a BID fountain pen and picked the Siers edition, which I absolutely love. Nothing compares to my old middle school days — this pen is smooth, won't run on the paper, and I'm starting to remember my cursive penmanship. It's fantastic. Thanks, guys!
